Tragedies do happen in our lives as we go on with our daily activities. Some tragedies may be catastrophic and much traumatizing; especially those which are fatal or lead to the deformity of the victim involved to an extent that one can go on with the normal activities that one used to perform. Such is the kind of tragedy that befell me when I got involved in a grisly road accident which almost claimed my life. One of my hands had to be amputated while the lower part of me got paralyzed.
That day, I was travelling home from a short trip that I had taken to my aunt’s place and after the accident, it was apparent that a lot had to be changed in my lifestyle if at all I had to partake in most of my usual activities. The worst was to be confined in a wheelchair.
Among the things that I perceived would be impossible for me to do was operate my laptop which was my most precious gadget. The thought of this gave me goose bumps as I lay in the hospital ward recuperating. Despite that, I thanked God that I was still alive.
After I was discharged from the hospital I stayed home for two months as my family took care of me and afterwards when I was more stable, I it was time to resume my college studies.
Bugs and Errors
I was welcomed back to school with my colleagues warmly and they all sympathized with me. They did all they could to help me whenever I was in need but not much could be done. I was always bored when they undertook activities that I couldn’t take part in and the most devastating was the fact that I couldn’t continue working on a video game that I was developing.
My best friend Henry tried to help me finish the coding of the game as I instructed him, but since coding wasn’t his thing, no much progress was made. There were a lot of errors and bugs on the whole project and I decided to let go.
Help With My Project
I knew that life would not be the same again. I had to forfeit most of my outdoor activities but I really needed to continue working with the computer. Hope came when a new computer technician joined our school’s staff.
The lady was really lovely and caring and after learning of my predicament, she promised to help. It didn’t take long before she had the school purchase assistive hardware and other technologies which could be used by students in my situation.
Then she went ahead to teach me on how to use the devices and components that was bought. This took almost 6 months. It could have taken longer but my desire to learn and continue with my projects made be keen and hence I was able to learn fast. Thanks to the assistive hardware devices and technology I was able to successfully complete my project and also start on new ones.
