Computers have become an integral part of our daily lives. There are multiple activities that can be done using a computer which range from simple tasks such as typing, playing video games or researching in the internet to more complex usage such as developing video games, coding websites and managing special software such as those used in the banking sector.
All this is made possible by the fact that computers can easily follow instructions on the program which is being executed by both the hardware and software parts of the computer.
The hardware component of the computer being the physical parts which are tangible needs a lot of care for their functionality to be optimal and normal. This in turns ensures that there are minimal outages and that the up-time of the computer is guaranteed. Moreover, it makes it easier to upgrade or repair the computer.
The most common hardware components include the input devices such as mouse, keyboard, joystick etc, the motherboard, the graphical processing unit, the central processing unit, the power supply, the monitor etc.
As much as we rely on computer in most of the activities today, we all know that hardware components can wear out with time or may have other complications such as non-compatibility with the software or crashes due to power surges or over-use of the computer. Hence there is a need for a computer user to know the hardware components or to be able to entirely fix some hardware issues without the need to incur extra cost as one seeks the services of a technician.
Previously, this website had been a forum whereby different issues of hardware problems and compatibility could be solved by the sharing of idea and information by other forum members hence enabling the person with a problem to have it fixed.
The forum also had other categories such as updates of new computer components released, PC gaming discussions, multimedia and graphical discussions as well as news about computer technology among other smaller categories.
It was in operation from late 2000 to mid 2013. When I bought the domain, I decided that I’ll be creating content which revolve about the world of computer technology. I have posted several posts and you can access them by clicking through various posts or categories.
‘Boys will always be boys’, this is a statement which still rings in my mind whenever I look back through my journey to becoming a computer engineer, rather than a radiologist role in breast cancer diagnosis. That was a statement from my late mum as she tried to defend me from the wrath of my dad who was flogging me for being an ‘engineer’. Not what you are thinking, I meant a 12 year old engineer at my dad’s place as he often referred to the place I was bred at and knew as home almost my entire life. I can recall vividly all what happened on that day. Apparently, a jar of water had accidentally slipped of my hands while pouring some water on a glass and it fell on the table with all the water soaking my dad’s favorite camera – the Polaroid 660.
When that happened I knew that I was a dead man. Dad really loved this gadget and whenever we were going to church he had to take family photos before we left as well as having it in hand whenever there was a family event such as birthdays or when we were going out for a picnic, although I’m always supposed to be on a strict diet plan.. I always tend to eat quite a bit at any event, but I have a limit… I don’t allow myself to gain that much weight, just a little bit enough to easily lose at the gym.
A Technician’s Life
Therefore I knew that it needed urgent ‘repair’ if at all I was to escape his dire wrath. I took a screwdriver and went ahead to open the gadget so that I could dry it. I worked steadily by noting all what I was doing in unscrewing the device so that I could be at a position to re-build it all over again after it dried up. It wasn’t an easy tasked as I thought because in the process the shutter lens got damaged. I tried all my best to fix it – for a couple of hours – and didn’t even realize how time went by fast but was startled by a familiar knock on the door.
It was dad. I quickly went to hide the camera before opening the door. However, the batteries were left at the table where I was working from and thus no further evidence was needed the very moment that he saw the batteries. I tried to feign innocence but all my explanations were unworthy. It was mum who came to my aid some minutes later after she came from work too to hear my screams.
That’s how fascinating electronic gadgets were to me. I had been accustomed to opening faulty gadgets and hence computers were my thing when I went to college. I did computer engineering and majored in hardware components.
Thanks to my passion, I excelled very well at school, though I never realized my dreams of getting a job at either Bill Gates’ Microsoft or Jobs Apple Inc. However, I’m glad that I offered various hardware solutions to various companies through my computer hardware solutions company, a fete that I’m still proud about.
